The Ancient World
Luxor, Egypt -- The "Valley of the Dead" or "Valley of the Kings" is a canyon in the western wall of the Nile River valley, not far from Luxor. To accomodate tourists, paths have been made with bordering walls. Excavated tombs are marked with walls and door at the excavation entrance, together with informational signs. Tourists are told that this site was selected for royal tombs because of the pyramid-shaped rock formation at the top of the rock walls, which was seen as auspicious by the ancient Egyptians. © Rick Collier / RickCollier.com.
