The Ancient World
Luxor, Egypt -- A statue of Pharoah Ramses III towers outside the temple to Ramses between the first and second pylons at Karnak Temple. The small figure in front of the pharoah would be his wife. Karnak was built over many generations of Egyptian pharoah, as each successive king added pieces to this temple honoring the most significant god of the ancient Egyptian pantheon, the god Amun (later, Amon-Ra), the sun god. © Rick Collier / RickCollier.com.
