A poor Egyptian town stands in the shadow of ancient tombs, probably belonging to nobles and tomb builders to the kings interred in the Valley of the Kings, just on the other side of these mountains. Though only kings and queens could be interred in the royal valleys, high nobles and the tomb builders were permitted to create their own burial places nearby.
